Minor Arcana · Wands

Nine of Wands

Tired, still standing, watching the treeline.

Upright · Reversed

Keywords: wariness, the last reserve
Upright: Persistence past the point of comfort. The guard is warranted; the exhaustion is also real and should be counted.
Reversed: Suspicion outliving the threat; or dropping the guard exactly when it was needed.

In a three-card spread

In the Past position: Read as what is still exerting force — not what happened, but the part of it still pushing on the present.
In the Present position: Read as what is currently available, and where you actually stand. The spread usually turns on this card.
In the Future position: Read as tendency: where this leans if nothing changes. A statement about the present phrased as a direction — never a claim about what will happen.

Wands · Element: Fire

Wands govern drive: will, enthusiasm, the force that starts things. Their question is not whether a thing is right but whether there is still fire for it. Wands trouble is usually excess — burning too fast, carrying too much, charging in a direction nobody tested.

Its rank

Nine

Nine is nearly there: the gain is in hand and the price has been paid. The Nines hold satisfaction, exhaustion and three-in-the-morning dread alike — all shapes of almost.
