Minor Arcana · Wands

Eight of Wands

Things move faster than deliberation.

Upright · Reversed

Keywords: speed, messages in flight
Upright: Rapid, mostly favourable movement. Little time to steer, so whatever direction was set earlier is the direction taken.
Reversed: Haste with no aim; or a delay in a situation that will not wait.

In a three-card spread

In the Past position: Read as what is still exerting force — not what happened, but the part of it still pushing on the present.
In the Present position: Read as what is currently available, and where you actually stand. The spread usually turns on this card.
In the Future position: Read as tendency: where this leans if nothing changes. A statement about the present phrased as a direction — never a claim about what will happen.

Wands · Element: Fire

Wands govern drive: will, enthusiasm, the force that starts things. Their question is not whether a thing is right but whether there is still fire for it. Wands trouble is usually excess — burning too fast, carrying too much, charging in a direction nobody tested.

Its rank

Eight

Eight is motion: leaving, speeding, practising, being bound. Always about where this is going, even when the direction is inward or away.
