Five of Pentacles

Help exists, and is on the other side of the glass.

Upright · Reversed

Keywords: exclusion, cold outside a lit window
Upright: Hardship compounded by feeling outside. Often the door is nearer than it looks, and asking is the difficult part.
Reversed: The door found; or an isolation maintained out of pride.

In a three-card spread

In the Past position: Read as what is still exerting force — not what happened, but the part of it still pushing on the present.
In the Present position: Read as what is currently available, and where you actually stand. The spread usually turns on this card.
In the Future position: Read as tendency: where this leans if nothing changes. A statement about the present phrased as a direction — never a claim about what will happen.

Pentacles · Element: Earth

Pentacles govern the material and the body: work, resources, time, whether a thing has actually landed in the world. The slowest of the four suits and the only one that counts in years. Its trouble is mistaking holding for security, or waiting for stagnation.

Its rank

Five

Five is the Four's stability broken: loss, conflict, want. None of the Fives are comfortable, and all of them say the same thing — an arrangement that no longer holds is coming apart.
