Nun

Nun is the fourteenth letter, its pictograph a fish, and its number fifty. Among the twelve simple letters it answers to Scorpio, the sign of depth and hidden transformation. As this site draws the Tree, following the GRA, Nun is the path from Tiferet, Beauty, to Hod, Splendor. The Golden Dawn draws it instead from Tiferet to Netzach, Victory. Both attributions keep the bright centre at one end and reach into a lower current at the other; the traditions differ over which, and it is fair to hold the pair rather than choose blindly.

The fish swims on through lightless water — alive, and still moving, where no light reaches. This is the letter's tension: it joins the luminous centre to the dark undercurrent beneath it, and insists that not every real change happens where you can watch it. Some transformations occur entirely out of sight, in a depth the daylight self never visits. Only the one willing to dive, and to stay down in the dark a while, comes back holding the pearl.

When Nun is drawn, take it as contemplation, not a prophecy about endings or renewals. Sit with the letter as a fish in deep water, and let hitbonenut turn toward whatever in you is changing where you cannot yet see it clearly — a grief still working, a slow reversal not ready to surface. Notice how much you demand to understand a change before trusting it, and whether you can let the dark do its quiet work. The fish promises nothing you can see. It only keeps faith that something is alive and moving below.
