Endpoints
Which letter belongs to which path is not settled across schools. This site draws the Gra / Ari arrangement as its default; the Golden Dawn arrangement is noted as the alternative.

- חסד Mercy — נצח Victory

Tension
The open palm can receive as well as bestow. This path joins the principle of benevolence to enduring ardour: one end asks "should I give," the other "can I keep giving" — a kindness is complete only when it becomes a habit.
Essay
Kaph is the palm of the hand — not the whole hand but the cupped hollow of it — and its value is twenty. Among the seven double letters of the Sefer Yetzirah, each sounded two ways, Kaph is assigned to Jupiter, the planet the older astrology called the greater benefic, generous and expansive by temperament. It is the letter of the open hollow that can hold and can pour, the hand turned upward.
On this path the two great arrangements agree: both the GRA that this site follows and the later Golden Dawn attribution run Kaph down the pillar of mercy between Mercy and Victory — from the principle of benevolence to the enduring ardour that keeps at it. (On many paths the two schemes part ways, and this site draws the Tree by the GRA; here they happen to coincide.) The palm can receive as readily as it bestows, and the path joins the question "should I give" to the question "can I keep giving." The tension of walking it is that a kindness is complete only when it becomes a habit — that generosity proves itself not in the grand gesture but in the willingness to stay open-handed on the hundredth ordinary day.
When Kaph is drawn, take it as contemplation, not a promise of increase. In the manner of hitbonenut, consider a generosity you extend and ask whether it is a mood that visits you or a practice you have made durable. Notice where your open hand tires, and whether it tires because it is depleted or because no one refills it. The letter foretells no fortune; it only turns your attention to the difference between a gift and a way of living.
